Wow… it’s not just him who’s emotionally stunted… wait… no, can you call it that when he’s clearly showing signs of something like autism? It may not be specifically autism, but it’s similar. I’m not talking about the “savant” representation that is so loved by stars of the world (like Hollywood for instance) but him being completely logical about everything including their relationship.

Think about it; he gave her a separate bedroom believing she needs her own space to decompress, he didn’t give her flowers because they would whither and die, he praised what she did in what everyone else heard as being exactly like a subordinate but he insisted it was different. I originally had a similar situation with my boyfriend. At first he couldn’t understand me well in a romantic relationship but understood me very well as close friends. There were certain things that he had to learn about romantic relationships and feelings (not to mention I’m also autistic which lead him to realize my habits and behaviors towards things were like his but he thought I didn’t have it. Long story, not the point) pertaining to me. I think it’s the same here.

But I also believe she has her failures too. The synopsis is not fair to him. It makes it seem like she did and said various things to him romantically and was rebuffed but over these first few chapters it’s becoming clear… she NEVER said anything to him about any displeasure and just continued on under the pretense of being a hostage. Which makes NO sense by the way… even married hostages don’t get nearly the amount of privileges that she did. She allowed those misunderstandings to continue because she couldn’t be bothered with communicating with him.

Again, my relationship was like that. I had to learn to meet my boyfriend half way because I’ve always dated neuros (at least most of them were. One may have been autistic but he was… his own kind of… a-hole) so I had to learn to approach his way of thinking with a better understanding of autistic men. Anyway… she’s at fault too.
